Collection: Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey Cards

Pittsburgh Penguins hockey cards are legendary thanks to Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby. Crosby's Young Guns rookie card is one of the most valuable modern NHL collectibles. Collectors also seek cards for Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. Vintage Penguins cards and modern autographs from Upper Deck, SP Authentic, and memorabilia patches remain collector favorites.
The Pittsburgh Penguins, founded in 1967 during the NHL’s major expansion era, transformed from early struggles into one of hockey’s most successful modern franchises, capturing five Stanley Cup championships behind some of the greatest players in NHL history. The franchise’s first true superstar, Mario Lemieux, drafted in 1984, immediately changed the Penguins’ fortunes, leading the team to its first playoff appearances and becoming one of the most dominant offensive players the game has ever seen. Nicknamed “Super Mario,” Lemieux won six scoring titles, three MVPs, and two Conn Smythe Trophies, carrying Pittsburgh to back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992 alongside Hall of Famers Jaromír Jágr, Ron Francis, and goaltender Tom Barrasso under coach Bob Johnson and later Scotty Bowman. Financial struggles and Lemieux’s battle with illness and injury marked the mid-1990s, but his triumphant return in 2000 as both player and owner saved the franchise from relocation. The arrival of Sidney Crosby, drafted first overall in 2005, ushered in a new era of success as “Sid the Kid” quickly became the face of the NHL, winning multiple MVPs, scoring titles, and Olympic gold medals. Alongside Evgeni Malkin, another MVP winner, and elite goaltender Marc-André Fleury, Crosby led Pittsburgh to the 2009 Stanley Cup before back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017 under coach Mike Sullivan, with Malkin, Kris Letang, and Phil Kessel providing crucial contributions. Crosby’s leadership and consistency have kept the Penguins competitive into the 2020s, with stars like Jake Guentzel and goaltender Tristan Jarry joining the core. From Lemieux’s brilliance to Crosby and Malkin’s modern dynasty, the Penguins’ history blends championships, Hall of Fame talent, and a passionate fan base that has turned Pittsburgh into one of hockey’s premier cities.
