FC Dallas, founded in 1995 as the Dallas Burn before rebranding in 2005, has built a reputation for elite player development, fast-paced attacking soccer, and a commitment to producing U.S. national team stars while seeking its first MLS Cup title. Early years featured Colombian forward Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama, striker Jason Kreis, and goalkeeper Mark Dodd, leading Dallas to the 1997 U.S. Open Cup championship. The 2000s saw the emergence of Landon Donovan rival Jeff Cunningham, midfielder Oscar Pareja, and striker Kenny Cooper, while the club’s rebrand to FC Dallas coincided with the opening of Toyota Stadium and a renewed focus on academy talent. In 2010, led by MVP David Ferreira and forward Brek Shea, Dallas reached its first MLS Cup Final before falling to the Colorado Rapids. The mid-2010s brought one of MLS’s most exciting teams under coach Pareja with stars like Mauro Díaz, Matt Hedges, and Kellyn Acosta winning the 2016 U.S. Open Cup and Supporters’ Shield double. Known for producing talents like Weston McKennie, Chris Richards, Ricardo Pepi, and Jesus Ferreira, the latter becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer by age 22, FC Dallas remains a model for youth development. With Ferreira, winger Alan Velasco, and a homegrown-focused roster, Dallas continues chasing its first MLS Cup while supplying talent to Europe and the U.S. national team.
